Sanctuary

from Too Strong EP by Nohijo

/
  • Record/Vinyl + Digital Album

When we think of music, we make associations with memories, people, friendships, and happy moments; we look at creativity as an expression of joy and personality, a unintentional collaboration between the artist and their life. TECHFUI was founded on these principles: bringing family, friends, and fresh talent together to build strong, unconventional art. From the start, they’ve been true to their roots, traditions and culture, always looking ahead and trying something new and different.

In that spirit of consistently experimenting, fellow Dubai based Brit Nohijo (known to some as Lee Sandwith) brings us a sound that plays with a raw, stripped back house and techno feel for TECHFUI’s second release.

Nohijo started to develop an obsession with electronic music in his early teens, inspired by the acid house sound. After a few years of travelling around the country, exposing himself to some of Britain’s best underground clubs and sounds, Lee Sandwith, aka Nohijo, started a life-long journey of discovery into house music, releasing his music on several well-respected labels and gaining support from some of the scene’s most established names. From dance floor to DJ booth, Lee has consistently worked with a love for the unexpected through familiar sounds and genres.

    Nohijo says:

“Both tracks came from a burst of inspiration following a pretty hedonistic weekend. After getting back to my humble abode I wasn't sure quite what to do with myself so I cranked up my equipment and started massaging the creative juices.”
    - Nohijo

The title track, ‘Too Strong’, is the sort of track Nohijo loves to play: chunky house beats with a very simple idea at its core. The vocal comes from an 80's documentary - a gold mine for samples - about old school hip hop outfits.

‘Sanctuary’ was formed around the vocal, a classic old school house track which was overplayed in the 90s at a lot of raves across the UK. The a cappella is a gift from Nohijo’s good friend and long standing production partner Pete Griffiths (Yunome). ’Sanctuary’ comes with a long delay and feedback infused break, followed by a stripped down drop when the kick comes back in.

Rounding up the EP are Vakant, Arcarsenal and Bass Cadet wonder boy Tolga Fidan who came with two presents instead of one!. One of them on the vinyl for sure a sexy deep ride through a dark room ;-{>
The other, missing from the vinyl release but now available digitally, is a beautiful chord mix, for a sunny day!

And one half of Smokingroove, Monsafe brings us a darkly deep surprise too: another dive into late-night synths that build into a mood setter! The Digital release comes with the full version of Monsafe’s Remix, which we had to edit down to fit on vinyl.
